Course Description

This course introduces students to editing digital images. Students will develop skills in photo manipulation using Adobe Photoshop. Students will also learn different editing methods through projects and examples.

Justification

This course provides the student with experience in digital photo manipulation at an introductory level with emphasis placed on uses in a business environment. There is an ongoing need for employees who are skilled in editing and retouching photographs and general graphic design. These skills are often called upon in a business office to create images for media in an increasingly visually rich competitive marketing and communications environment.This course is used as a business elective, is recommended for students taking social media marketing, and is useful to students who are starting their own business ventures.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate the ability to navigate to and properly utilize desired tools within the Photoshop interface.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to make and manipulate selections.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to use layers effectively.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to create and/or edit images using common tools and processes such as masks, adjustments, layer properties, brushes, vector drawing techniques, typographic tools, cropping, resizing, and so forth.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to use some advanced features such as Generative AI Workflows, Contextual Task Bar, etc.
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of the utilization of graphic design, and particularly the tools/processes in this course in business communications/marketing.
