Brian Robert van Uitert- 1990 Alum

  1. Where are you currently employed? For the past 18 years, I have worked in the finance business as a mortgage broker and I have really enjoyed all of the people that I have met through the many transactions that I have worked on. I have been involved with all types of residential lending; my favorite being construction lending because a new home is created from the building plans and to see the home rise from the ground up is quite exciting. When we built our home in 2004, we incorporated many ideas and upgrades that I picked up over the years.
  2. What are your hobbies?As far as hobbies go, I have never strayed far from my football roots and up until 2009, I was going to the gym and lifting weights daily and I loved it.  However, I kept getting injured and had to have multiple surgeries due to the lifting related injuries and that really takes the fun out of it.  Abandoning weight lifting, I had to focus my energy elsewhere so I decided to start running and I ran my first half-marathon in May of 2009. It was at the finish line when I realized that former linemen are not designed to run for 13.1 miles all at once; my long distance running career was very short lived.  In September 2009, my wife and I purchased road bikes and we started pedaling around Davis, Salt Lake, Ogden, Box Elder and Morgan counties. A year later, in September 2010, I completed my first LOTOJA (Logan to Jackson Hole bicycle race) in 11 hours and 14 minutes, which is slower than I wanted but to be fair, I had my appendix out a slim 3 ½ weeks earlier so I was not quite at full strength.  In September 2011, I completed my second LOTOJA race so now I consider myself a regular. My wife and I stay very active physically and I love to do anything outdoors: water skiing, hiking, cycling, golfing, softball…the list doesn’t end.
  3. How did Snow College contribute to your accomplishments? When I think back on my first visit to Snow College, it was in the early spring of 1985. I saw my older brother play on the basketball team and I was mesmerized by the school and the community and I was excited to attend school at Snow College.  I learned many things as a student at Snow College, from leadership skills to effective study habits that helped me as I pursued my education at the University of Utah. I consider myself successful because of the rich experiences I had at Snow College.
  4. What is your most memorable moment at Snow College? The most memorable experience at Snow College is difficult to define but my two most memorable experiences took place 25 years apart.  First of all, the National Championship team from 1985 was special. Our team was cohesive and we worked all season long to achieve our goals and the friendships I established in 1985, were reaffirmed in October 2010, when our 1985 team reunited in Ephraim for the 25 year reunion as well as the induction to the National Junior College Football Hall of Fame.  The time I was able to spend with my teammates was priceless and I’ve cherished the memories. I hope we can get together again and recreate the great time we had.
  5. What additional information would you like for other alumni to know about you?  Snow College provides an excellent environment to receive a strong and diverse education.  My wife and I have 4 beautiful daughters (17, 15, 13 and 6) and we hope that each of them have the opportunity to experience what I did during my time at Snow College.  Our oldest daughter, Madison, will be attending Snow College this fall and she is extremely excited to continue the family tradition.  To this day, I am in touch with many of my friends from Snow College and our friendships are as strong now as they were then.  Snow College is a fantastic place to go to school.
