In this course students participate in a group ensemble experience on brass instruments. It is designed for intermediate level brass players. This ensemble will provide students with an opportunity to develop technical skill, sight-reading ability, and knowledge of the repertory related to the ensemble. It further allows students to synthesize musical, historical and cultural knowledge into meaningful artistic expression. Repeatable for credit.
Music majors are required to participate in a variety of ensembles. Playing in small ensembles, where students play one on a part, provides a focus on intonation, articulation, style and musicality that is not possible to achieve in larger ensembles. All NASM accredited institutions are required to ensure music majors have experience in these kinds of ensembles.
Members of the ensemble will learn and perform appropriate literature as selected by the instructor. The instructor may draw literature from any period, style or genre. Students will commit to and prepare for regular practice meetings as an ensemble throughout the semester. All students will be treated equally.
The instructor may address skill development in any of the following areas: intonation, ensemble blend, rhythmic articulation and coordination, stylistic interpretation, expression, and historical performance practice
