Codes of conduct:

  • The dress code for both men and women is to be covered from wrists to ankles. If some women want to wear skirts they'd need to wear leggings underneath. There is no need for women to cover their hair.
  • Attending the service is straight forward: everyone should just sit in the back--in whichever section they are in--against the back wall, or against the walls on the side. It's important that no one extends their legs outwards, as this could blocok the worshippers from walking in front of them AND it's a sort of taboo. So, everyone needs to sit cross legged or with their knees pulled up to their chests. Standing is also an option, and there are chairs for individuals who have difficulty sitting or standing for long periods.
  • The imam gives a sermon for about 15–20 minutes in English, then there's a shorter version and invocation in Arabic. And then the ritual prayers begin; that lasts about 5 minutes, no more than 10. When everybody begins exiting, that's when you know the particular service has ended. We plan on a Q&A after the service with a Bosnian fellow named Nedzad.

Fine Print: If this field trip causes you to miss class, please contact your professor(s) before we go.
