Requirements to Graduate with Honors Recognition

Current as of March 2023 to take effect Fall 2023. Students graduating under the old requirements should see a co-director.

To graduate from Snow College with Honors Recognition

  • Earn 14 Honors Points for a two-year option, or 11 Honors Points for a one-year option (for those arriving on campus with 30+ college credits)
  • Complete Intellectual Traditions (HONR 2100)   [contact the co-directors if you have already taken a GNST 1200 Foundations course (the old requirement)]
  • Complete the Honors Capstone course (HONR 2900), including
    • Capstone Project (thesis or some other significant project)
    • ePortfolio completion

How to Earn Honors Points

  • Honors courses: 1 point per credit

    • Honors Intellectual Traditions, HONR 2100 (required): 3 credits = 3 points   (or Foundations GNST 1200 under old program)
    • Honors Capstone, HONR 2900 (required): 2 credits = 2 points
    • Other Honors courses (must have an H in the section number): 1 point per credit (see list of offerings)

Note: It is possible to earn all needed points by taking classes; indeed, this may be necessary depending on which upper-division honors program you transfer to. The co-curricular experiences are intended to increase flexibility in case of scheduling conflicts.

Recording and Tracking Honors Points

The Honors Program Canvas course will be used to document your accumulation of honors points and your progress through the program. A written reflection will be submitted in Canvas for each Honors course and co-curricular experience.

Capstone Project

In the Honors Capstone class you will write a thesis or do some other significant project under the mentorship of the Honors Program Co-Directors and another faculty member who specializes in your area of interest. This counts as one of the two points for HONR 2900.

ePortfolio

Your ePortfolio in Canvas will be started in your Honors Foundations class. You will add artifacts showing your best work from all of your classes to your portfolio, along with the reflections from your co-curricular experiences. Your ePortfolio will be polished and evaluated in the Honors Capstone class. This counts as one of the two points for HONR 2900.
