Catalog Description: This course is concurrent with either DANC 2756/DANC 2757 or DANC 2758/DANC 2759. Through monthly dance labs, outreach activities and participation in the Fall and Spring Dance Concerts, the class provides students with an opportunity to experience choreographing, designing, producing and performing in a public stage concert. This course is repeatable for credit.

Justification: This is a new course that was suggested to us by a recent panel of six external reviewers of the Snow College Dance Department. It ensures that both the students and the instructors of the Ballroom Company classes are awarded credit for dance labs, outreach activities and at least 30 additional hours of rehearsal in the Kim Christensen Theatre in addition to collaborating with other faculty and staff on designing lights, sound, costumes, and marketing materials/programs for our Fall and Spring dance concerts.


Student Learning Outcomes:
Students will learn the process of rehearsing and presenting dance works by faculty, students and guest artists for a formal stage concert. This will be assessed by instructor and self-evaluation of performances and rehearsals, as well as lighting, music, program, costume/make-up proposals and submissions.

Students will learn the process of lighting a dance piece for stage. This will be assessed by instructor and self-evaluation of performances and rehearsals, as well as lighting proposals and submissions.

Students will learn the process of costuming for a dance concert This will be assessed by instructor and self-evaluation of performances and rehearsals, as well as costume/make-up proposals and submissions.

Students will learn the process of creating a dance concert program. This will be assessed by instructor and self-evaluation of performances and rehearsals, as well as program proposals and submissions.

Students will learn the process of promoting a dance concert. This will be assessed by instructor and self-evaluation of performances and rehearsals, as well promotion proposals and submissions.

Students will learn the process of choosing appropriate music/sound for a dance concert. This will be assessed by instructor and self-evaluation of performances and rehearsals, as well as music proposals and submissions.


Content:
This course is offered concurrently with the Snow Ballroom Company courses. Through dance labs, outreach activities and rehearsals in the Kim Christensen Theatre students will gain additional experiences as dance performers, dance choreographers as well as dance concert designers and producers.

Pedagogy Statement:
This course will be taught through collaboration and creative planning between students and faculty to bring performance plans to fruition. The Snow College Ballroom Company welcomes dancers of all backgrounds and experiences.
